And they’re off!
Hubs and our sixteen year old daughter are evading prison guards, digging tunnels, and pounding through brick walls on their adventure race today.
Pre-race meal requests included fully loaded burgers to which I dutifully complied. This was our first sampling of the latest steer we harvested and I’m really, really happy with the taste, quality, and fat cover. We grind our ground beef with texture and plenty of fat. Nothing grosses me out more than ground meat (or mince for you, Europeans) that is smooth and paste-like.
On the burgers went some bacon fat aioli, raw Guernsey cheese, coppa, shiitakes swimming in garlicky ghee, grainy mustard and bacon. On the side is my Bapka’s famous cucumber salad. My garden is bursting and there’s only so many cukes a gal can ferment. You just slice the cukes as thin as possible, salt them, drain for a couple hours, squeeze them out, add some sour cream, a few dashes of vinegar, and some paprika and salt. Really delicious and very easy to digest.
That’s it. Keep your fingers crossed that my two fugitives show all them Gatorade gulping guards how it’s done.
